Being a part of a wonderful cast in a live musical is exciting and validating. But there aren't always opportunities to do so.
Right now, there is. Israel Musicals is now casting for a show that is a Broadway legend. A show that is beyond entertaining, it's a spiritual boost of idealism at a time when spirits need boosting.
Recognized as one of Broadway's greatest hits, it easily won the Best Musical Tony Award. It continues to be revived and performed all over the world.
Israel Musicals has been making magic for years. Last summer, we treated Jerusalem audiences to a very sweet Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the past, we have been CATS, Producers, Seussical animals and other stage creatures.
Our volunteer actors come from all areas of life, and some have been performing with us from the get-go. The echoes of the show experience last way past closing night. As the actors from our previous shows will tell you, the relationships and memories live on till this day.
It is the story of a crazy Knight at a time when there weren't any more Knights. It's a story of how a harsh world sought to batter him down with cruel reality, and how he refused to let go of his magnificent idealism. It is the show that gave us the song, nay, the anthem, The Impossible Dream.
It is called Man of La Mancha.
When the Spanish writer Miguel the Cervantes found himself thrust into a dungeon with violent cutthroat types, he only had one chance to protect himself and his most prized possession, a manuscript named Don Quixote. Those dangerous criminals had already emptied his belongings, and were now threatening to burn the book. What he did to save himself and his masterpiece was nothing short of a hypnotic miracle. And even more remarkable was the effect he had on a woman of ill repute named Aldonza.
And even more remarkable than that was the transformative effect that this show has had on audiences for 60 years. It's more than a show, it's a mission.
Do not apply to be in the show if you are not prepared to strive for excellence. This particular musical is less complicated than last year's (Charlie), which will be reflected in the rehearsal schedule. The energy in this musical comes through its singing and acting.
Man of La Mancha has a medium-size cast which must be high on energy and full emotional engagement. We will be rehearsing a few times a week, and performing between June 30th and July 8th. The shows will mostly be in Jerusalem, with one or two in the Center.
Now is the time to submit your actor application so we can schedule your tryout. Your opportunity to do something amazing and be a part of a classic musical is today. The opportunity will be gone quickly.
